The Politics of Abe's Turn

I’ve been looking for a way to work this into a blog post, and now Mike Tenant has given me an opportunity to do so.

On LewRockwell.com, Mike talks about obeying men rather than God. As a Christian—and as you know, Clydene and Ted are also Christians—I see a form of idolatry taking root in America, even in our churches.

No matter what government does, no matter how immoral, how despicable, how many people it hurts, no matter if we would be appalled to have done it ourselves, when government does it, we say it’s justified. We have imbued government with an aura of divinity.

Christians now believe that if something is immoral, it ought to be illegal. And if something is legal, that lends it morality. We have imbued government with an aura of divinity.

I could go on all day, but I trust you get the point.

If I were to sum up the politics of Abe’s Turn, it might go something like this: Government is not God. Politicians only like to act like it is, and they, his priests.

Why does the majority go along with this? Perhaps because you never disagree with the man holding the gun, even if he is crazy.
